The Polygon, Somers Town in 1850 (from an original sketch). An area of London, where William Godwin had lived there with his wife Mary Wollstonecraft, writer, philosopher and feminist. The area appears to have appealed to middle-class people fleeing the French Revolution. St Aloysius Chapel on right opened 8 April 1808. Engraving by Joseph Swain (1820-1909), English wood-engraver associated with Punch magazine. Public Domain.
