Anmeldelser, interviews og debat om Naomi Klein’s bog ‘No Logo’. Derudover en række resursesteder om sweatshops.

Forord

Tamara Straus: Naomi Klein’s new new left (22. aug. 2000).
“Like many who took to the streets of Seattle, DC or LA, Naomi Klein, author of the anti-corporate bible ‘No Logo’, thinks we’re witnessing the birth of a new radicalism. But she has reservations; she’s not so certain the New Left isn’t just running in place.”

Cultural Logic

Matthew Sharpe: The Logo as fetish : Marxist themes in Naomi Klein’s No Logo (Volume 6, 2003)
“In the broad sense that Klein is clearly interested in trying to forge a link between theoretical reflexivity and political practice, then, No Logo can be read as a neoMarxist tome. In this essay, though, I want to suggest that Klein’s work is (knowingly or not) deeply Marxian in its argument, in more senses than just this.”

“We should be grateful that such a substantial and inspiring book has been written about a new and alternative political movement.”

The Guardian

Katharine Viner: Hand-to-brand-combat, 1-2 (23. sept. 2000).
“As a teenager, Naomi Klein was a dedicated mall rat, fixated on designer labels. A bare decade later, the author of a life-changing book on anti-corporatism and the new politics, she is at the heart of the protest at the current World Bank summit in Prague. She tells Katharine Viner how everything turned around for her.”

In These Times

Naomi Klein: Kamikaze capitalists (9. november, 2001).
“What do you call someone who believes so firmly in the promise of salvation through a set of rigid rules that he is willing to risk his own life to spread those rules? A religious fanatic? A holy warrior? How about a U.S. trade negotiator?”

Jane Slaughter: The next Seattle : Naomi Klein looks into the future of the movement (25. dec. 2000).
“It has been nearly a year since the ‘Battle in Seattle’ gave the globalizers a wake-up call. Many on the left were equally jolted by the commitment and radicalism of the young protesters, who seemed to arrive out of nowhere. But the events of Seattle were foretold by 30-year-old Canadian Naomi Klein. In her 1999 book, ‘No Logo’, Klein explained how corporations’ twin profit strategies – their hyper-marketing and their outsourcing of labor – had created a generation of activists who feel no stake in the system. Klein spoke with ‘In These Times’ from Seattle.”

Naomi Klein: Reclaiming the commons (nr. 9, maj-juni 2001, s. 81-89).
“The anti-globalization movement is the talk of the financial press. Naomi Klein asks how far it is against globalization and whether it is a movement, arguing it is better described as a broadening series of different struggles against privatization””in every sense.”

“Naomi Klein’s bog No Logo røber hvordan multinationale firmaer kvæler folks liv.

Naomi Klein: Farewell to “The end of history” : organization and vision in anti-corporate movements (pdf).
“For the past thirty years, a select group of CEOs and world leaders have met during the last week in January on a mountaintop in Switzerland to do what they presumed they were the only ones entitled to do, or capable of doing: determine how the global economy should be governed. We were cheering because it was, in fact, the last week of January, and this wasn’t the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. It was the first annual World Social Forum in Porto Alegre, Brazil. And even though we weren’t CEOs or world leaders, we were still going to spend the week talking about how the global economy should be governed.”

Solidaritet

Walden Bello: No Logo : A brilliant but flawed portrait of contemporary capitalism (April 2001). (source: Focus on the Global Sourth (focusweb.org)
“Naomi Klein paints an unparalleled portrait of the culture of capitalism in the age of globalization. She also provides us with the best analysis yet of the rise of the anti-globalization movement. She has, moreover, written a very insightful work on the dynamics of light manufacturing, the service sector, entertainment, and retail, where marketing has eclipsed manufacturing, where selling the product has given way to establishing the hegemony of the brand in the consumer’s total lifestyle. But the portrait is incomplete and one-dimensional.”
